Finding budget wall art can be difficult, especially larger-scale pieces. There’s no reason to give up on stylish decor, though—I have a secret to share with you.
Calendar Prints for Wall Art
I made these adorable vintage National Park posters from an old calendar. A calendar is a great place to find art to frame, and is perfect for finding multiple cohesive pieces. I LOVED these vintage prints when we had the calendar, so I saved them to use for later.
Most calendar prints aren’t standard framing sizes, but don’t fear. You have a couple of options. I was originally going to purchase 16×20 frames and have mats cut at Hobby Lobby to fit the frames. This is a great and inexpensive option, but I decided to it the mats for this project.
My prints had a nice border around them that worked for the 12×18 frames I found, so I simply cut the pages to fit the frames.
Making Gold Frames
I picked up four black plastic 12×16 frames at Michaels, but wanted a frame that would stand out more on the newly-painted navy wall. I knew just the product to use—Rubb’nBuff in Antique Gold. After removing the glass, I rubbed it all over the frames and waited for it to dry for about an hour. Then, the glass and prints were ready to go back in. You can see it makes a gorgeous metallic finish.
I placed the four prints side-by-side along the new 6’ picture ledge I made for the room. You can see the easy tutorial–it’s my favorite shelf and you can probably make one, start-to-finish, in under 20 minutes!
Navy Bedroom
I love how the gold frames pop on the navy wall. The prints are perfect for an outdoorsy or camp-themed little boys room. I can even see using them somewhere like a foyer or den! If you’d like to see the rest of this cozy, navy blue bedroom, you can check it out here.

Romabio Velatura Mineralwash
I can't remember the first example of fluted wood furniture I saw, but it was probably either this gorgeous custom wood bathroom vanity from Chris Loves Julia , or the DIY fluted coffee table Fariha shared on Pennies for a Fortune . The custom cabinetry was done professionally using a router for each line, which isn't something I possess the skills to do. This did help inspire the colors I used in our bathroom remodel, though! I really connected to the method Fariha used to build the coffee table--wooden dowels. What a fabulous idea!
I did a little refresh in our daughter's room, and I decided we needed some large-scale art. I actually planned to order a print, but inspiration struck on a trip to HomeGoods when I saw two HUGE framed canvases on clearance for $25 and $9. I grabbed them up and headed home, with my head filled with ideas on what to do with them.
I love peel-and-stick wallpaper so much! It's an easy, DIY fix for any space that just needs a little refresh. Because it's easily removeable, I feel much more confident going ahead and choosing a pattern. I struggle to commit to traditional pasted wallpaper--I think it's because we removed so much of it when we bought our house. It is no easy task. Peel-and-stick is also very economical, so if you decide to change it up a few years down the line, it doesn't feel so bad. I've now put it in four areas of our house. Today, you'll see the kitchen and den. It's the same pattern in different colors. I love how much the simple pattern really just makes each space.
