Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper
I love peel-and-stick wallpaper so much! It's an easy, DIY fix for any space that just needs a little refresh. Because it's easily removeable, I feel much more confident going ahead and choosing a pattern. I struggle to commit to traditional pasted wallpaper--I think it's because we removed so much of it when we bought our house. It is no easy task. Peel-and-stick is also very economical, so if you decide to change it up a few years down the line, it doesn't feel so bad.
I've now put it in four areas of our house. Today, you'll see the kitchen and den. It's the same pattern in different colors. I love how much the simple pattern really just makes each space.
Kitchen
I wanted to do something light in here that would go well with our very neutral (black, white, and gray) kitchen. This simple pattern did just the trick. It's by Magnolia Home
and is great quality. Just know if you're working with a more geometric pattern, it's VERY important to be sure to line up every strip correctly--or you'll have a huge slanted line going across your wall. It's still relatively easy on a blank wall with no windows, doors or openings. It gets a little more challenging when rounding corners and cutting around openings. You can see a more organic (easier) pattern in our laundry room here.
Never start the edge of the roll in the corner. Your corners are not square. Overlap a couple inches of paper and cut the edge with a razor blade. This will make your corners LOOK straight. And do the same thing at the top. Overlap the ceiling or trip a little and cut off the excess. You'll get a much more professional result.
Den
After I did the kitchen, I decided I wanted to do the wall where our tv is mounted. It was a relatively easy job--I didn't even take down the television. I got the wallpaper as close to the mount as I could and you can't tell it's not perfect behind there. I think this is the only grey color we have in our house now--when we moved in, we had three rooms! I love the pattern behind the television and on this wall. It makes the long, narrow room seem wider and really cozy. I went with the same Magnolia Home pattern from USWallDecor.com in grey and white.
It was really fun to make sure a big change without a huge mess or commitment. If I decide to change it up later, it's going to be super easy.
I can't remember the first example of fluted wood furniture I saw, but it was probably either this gorgeous custom wood bathroom vanity from Chris Loves Julia , or the DIY fluted coffee table Fariha shared on Pennies for a Fortune . The custom cabinetry was done professionally using a router for each line, which isn't something I possess the skills to do. This did help inspire the colors I used in our bathroom remodel, though! I really connected to the method Fariha used to build the coffee table--wooden dowels. What a fabulous idea!
