My husband's cousin has an awning business and offered to give me some scraps to play around with, so of course, I took him up on it! I LOVE canvas wall hangings, so I immediately thought to try that out first!
Our laundry room has a giant electrical box on the back wall to which we (obviously) need access, but it's not the prettiest thing to look at, so I decided to make something to cover it! I initially thought of using a poster frame, but that would still be somewhat heavy and cumbersome to remove when you need to access the box. Then, I remembered the canvas and decided a wall hanging would be the perfect solution--pretty, lightweight and easy to move when we need to flip a breaker, (which I have done TWICE this week!)
I measured the box and cut a piece of black canvas slightly wider and longer, so it covered the box area nicely. Then, I just grabbed some of the latex paint from the laundry room makeover and painted a really rough potted cactus. Because, well, I love them, even though we live where none grow naturally.
Then, I cut some wooden dowels to size, stained them with a light coat of Minwax Gel Stain in Walnut, and stapled the top and bottom of the canvas to the dowels. I attached a piece of string with staples, and hung it up over the electrical box with a nail.
Sometimes you have to think outside of the typical art materials to solve your problems, and this canvas did the trick!
